The short answer
BJ's gas is already discounted for members, and the savings stack. Layer them and a single fill-up can carry five discounts at once: BJ's low member price, an extra 5¢/gal for Club+, 10–15¢/galfrom a BJ's One Mastercard, 10¢/gal per Fuel Saver item you buy in-club, and the recurring "spend $150, get 50¢/gal off" promo. Stacked together they can drop the pump price to a 2¢/gallon floor — or a literal penny during BJ's annual Penny-per-Gallon event.
Warehouse-club gas is one of the best everyday deals in retail, and BJ's stacks more discounts on top of it than almost anyone. The catch is that the savings are scattered across a membership tier, a credit card, in-club coupons, and limited-time promos — so most members only ever use one of them. Here is every BJ's gas discount, how much each is worth, and exactly how to combine them.
Start with the discount you already have: member price
Before any coupon or card, the biggest saving is simply being a member. Warehouse clubs sell fuel as a loss-leader to pull members through the door, and their buying volume lets them hold the pump price below the local average. BJ's advertises that members save about 20¢ a gallon on averageversus nearby stations — and that's the starting price, before everything below.
Because that base discount is built into the posted price, the only thing you have to do to claim it is fuel up at a club. You can see how today's BJ's prices compare where you live on our live price pages or the state-by-state rankings. For why the cheaper price doesn't mean lower-quality fuel, see is BJ's gas good?
1. Club+ membership — an extra 5¢ a gallon
BJ's sells two membership tiers: standard Club at about $60 a year and Club+ at about $120. Both let you buy gas, but Club+ takes an additional 5¢ off every gallonon top of the member price above. If you fill a 14-gallon tank weekly, that 5¢ is roughly $36 a year — so on fuel alone the upgrade covers more than half of its $60 premium over standard Club, before you count the 2% back in BJ's rewards that Club+ adds on most in-club purchases.
2. The BJ's One Mastercard — 10¢ to 15¢ a gallon
The single most reliable add-on is the co-branded credit card from Capital One. The BJ's One™ Mastercard® takes 10¢ off per gallon and the BJ's One+™ Mastercard® takes 15¢ off, applied automatically at the pump — every day, not just during promos. Neither card has an annual card fee (you do need a BJ's membership), and the One+ pairs with a Club+ membership.
One nuance worth knowing: the card's gas benefit is the per-gallon discount, not cash-back rewards — fuel itself doesn't earn the 3% or 5% you get on in-club spending. That's fine, because 10–15¢ a gallon at the pump is usually worth more than a few percent back would be. The BJ's One card also doubles as your membership at the pump: one tap clears membership and payment together. For everything the pumps accept, see our BJ's gas payment methods guide.
3. Fuel Saver items — what the gas symbol on BJ's coupons means
If you've seen a little gas-pump symbolon a BJ's coupon, shelf tag, or in the member savings booklet and wondered what it meant — that's the Fuel Saver icon. Buy an item marked with it and you bank 10¢ off per gallon toward a future fill-up. More than a hundred everyday products carry the symbol — groceries, household goods, health and beauty, pet supplies — and the savings stack per item: buy two and it's 20¢ a gallon, three is 30¢, and so on.
The discount loads onto your membership card automatically when you check out (in-club, online, curbside, or same-day delivery all count), and you have 30 daysto redeem it at the pump. You can check your balance in your BJs.com account before you drive over. It's the easiest discount to overlook and one of the most lucrative if you're already doing a big grocery run.
4. The big one — "spend $150, get 50¢ a gallon off"
Several times a year BJ's runs a spend-and-save fuel promo, and it's the largest single discount on the board. The current version: spend $150 in one transaction and get 50¢ off per gallon on your next fill-up. (Earlier rounds used a lower $100 threshold, so the exact number moves — always check the active offer.) The important terms:
- The $150 must be a single transaction, in-club or on BJs.com.
- You have 7 daysto redeem the 50¢ at BJ's Gas.
- It covers up to 40 gallons or $99 of fuel, whichever comes first.
- Gas, alcohol, tobacco, lottery, gift cards, propane, and membership fees don't count toward the $150.
Because it's tied to spending you were likely going to do anyway, a single qualifying grocery trip can hand you 50¢ a gallon — the equivalent of a deep, one-time price cut.
Stack them: how low can BJ's gas actually go?
Here's the payoff — these discounts combine on a single fill-up. Picture a Club+ member, paying with a BJ's One+ card, who grabbed two Fuel Saver items and triggered the spend-$150 promo on the same shopping trip:
- BJ's member price — already ~20¢ under the local average
- Club+ membership — 5¢
- BJ's One+ Mastercard — 15¢
- Two Fuel Saver items — 20¢
- Spend-$150 promo — 50¢
That's 90¢ a gallonstacked off BJ's already-low member price. There is a floor — most promos won't take the pump below 2¢ a gallon, and each discounted fill is capped at 40 gallons or $99 — but the practical takeaway is that a little planning turns an ordinary fill-up into one of the cheapest in town. Once a year, during BJ's Penny-per-Gallon event, members who load up on enough Fuel Saver items push all the way down to a literal 1¢ a gallon.
Two ground rules to remember: you can earn and redeem a fuel discount once per day per membership, and all of this is members-only — you scan your membership (or tap a BJ's One card) before the discount applies at the pump. (Not a member yet? See do you need a BJ's membership to buy gas?)
The quick cheat sheet
- Always on:fuel up as a member (~20¢/gal), add Club+ (5¢) and a BJ's One/One+ card (10–15¢).
- Before you fill: grab a few gas-symbol Fuel Saver items (10¢ each) and watch for a spend $150 → 50¢/gal promo.
- Mind the limits: 40-gallon / $99 cap, a 2¢/gal floor, one discount per day, and redemption windows of 7 days (promo) or 30 days (Fuel Saver).
