The short answer
At BJ's Gas you can pay with any major credit card — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover — plus debit cards, BJ's gift cards, and contactless Tap & Pay using a tapped card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. There is no cash at the pump: BJ's Gas is self-serve and card-operated, and it is a members-only benefit, so the pump checks for an active BJ's membership before it dispenses.
What you can use at BJ's Gas
- Any major credit card — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover (including JCB)
- Debit cards (processed over the Visa or Mastercard networks)
- Tap & Pay — a contactless card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay (live at every BJ’s Gas location since January 2025)
- The BJ’s One® and BJ’s One+® Mastercard® — one tap clears your membership and payment together
- BJ’s gift cards
What it won't accept
- Cash and checks — the pumps are self-serve and card-operated
- Anyone without a BJ’s membership — the pump verifies an active member before it dispenses
- Other warehouse clubs’ store cards (a Costco Shop Card won’t work — only BJ’s gift cards do)
Good to know
BJ's Gas is a members-only benefit. Before you pay, scan your membership card — the physical card or the digital one in the BJ's app — then tap or insert your payment. The exception is the BJ's One Mastercard: one tap processes your membership and payment at the same time.
Two BJ’s co-brand cards from Capital One take money straight off the pump price: the BJ’s One™ Mastercard® knocks 10¢ off every gallon, and the BJ’s One+™ Mastercard® takes 15¢ off (it requires a Club+ membership). Those discounts stack on top of BJ’s already-low member pricing.
A Club+ membership itself adds 5¢ off every gallon, and the Fuel Saver program banks another 10¢/gallon for each specially marked “High Octane” item you buy in-club — savings you can stack across several shopping trips before a fill-up.
Unlike some warehouse clubs that lock the pump to a single card network — Costco in the U.S. takes Visa only — BJ’s accepts every major network, so whatever is in your wallet will almost certainly work.
Frequently asked questions
What payment methods does BJ’s Gas accept?
Every major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover), debit cards run over the Visa or Mastercard networks, BJ's gift cards, and contactless Tap & Pay — a tapped card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. The pumps are card-only; there is no cash.
Can I use Apple Pay or Google Pay at BJ’s Gas?
Yes. BJ's rolled out Tap & Pay at all of its gas locations in January 2025, so you can pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or any contactless credit or debit card. You still scan your membership card first, unless you tap a BJ's One Mastercard.
Do you need a BJ’s membership to buy gas?
Yes. BJ's Gas is a members-only benefit and the pump verifies an active membership before it dispenses. You scan your physical or digital membership card — or tap a BJ's One Mastercard, which combines membership and payment in a single tap.
Does BJ’s Gas take cash?
No. BJ's Gas stations are self-serve and card-operated, so you pay at the pump with a credit card, debit card, BJ's gift card, or a mobile wallet — not cash or checks.
How much does the BJ’s One Mastercard save on gas?
The BJ’s One™ Mastercard® takes 10¢ off every gallon at BJ’s Gas, and the BJ’s One+™ Mastercard® takes 15¢ off (it requires a Club+ membership). The discount is applied right at the pump, on top of BJ’s member price.
